Seashell Illustration Collage Sheets
These are beautiful vintage illustrations of seashells organized into printable collage sheets. They came from a book on conchology, the study of mollusk shells. This is not to be confused (I was) with malacology, the study of mollusks as a whole organism. These sheets can be used for junk journaling, art journaling, collage, ATCs and other mixed media artwork.
Scroll all the way down, and you’ll find four different printable collage sheets for you to download. The first is a sheet of 1.5” x 3” journal tags, followed by a sheet of 3” circles, a page of 2.5” x 3.5” ATCs, and finally a sheet of larger 4-up images.
Malacology and conchology are both branches of zoology that deal with the study of mollusks, but they have slightly different focuses.
Malacology is the broader of the two terms and refers to the scientific study of mollusks, which are a diverse group of invertebrate animals that include snails, clams, mussels, octopuses, and squids. Malacology encompasses the study of the biology, ecology, anatomy, physiology, behavior, and taxonomy of mollusks. This field also investigates the interactions of mollusks with their environment and other organisms. In essence, malacology is concerned with all aspects of mollusk biology and their role in ecosystems.
Conchology is a more specialized branch of malacology that focuses specifically on the study of mollusk shells. It involves the collection, identification, classification, and study of shells from various mollusk species. Conchologists study the morphology, structure, and patterns of shells, as well as their evolution, diversity, and distribution. The term "conchology" is often used interchangeably with "malacology," but it more precisely refers to the study of shells rather than the entire spectrum of mollusk biology.
