The tea sets on these printable ephemera sheets were design by an unknown French artist in the 19th century. I included some smaller 3.5” x 2” journal tags, as well as a couple of full pages of tea cups, which could be cut up or used as backgrounds.

In the 19th century, tea sets were designed and manufactured through a combination of handcrafted techniques and industrial processes.

The design phase involved the influence of artistic movements and styles prevalent during that era, resulting in sketches or detailed drawings of the tea sets such as the ones featured here. Materials such as porcelain, bone china, or silver were commonly used. Skilled artisans played a crucial role, shaping and molding the components of the tea set by hand. Porcelain and bone china sets required meticulous work with molds, kiln firing, glazing, and the application of decorative motifs.

As industrialization advanced, mechanized processes were introduced, enabling mass production and reducing the reliance on manual labor. Industrial techniques like molding, casting, and engraving became more prevalent. Additional finishing touches, such as hand-painting intricate designs, gilding, and the addition of decorative elements, were carefully applied by skilled artisans.

Once manufactured, tea sets were distributed to retailers or sold through specialized shops, where they were showcased or featured in catalogs for customers to make their selections. The specific techniques and processes varied based on the region, materials used, and individual manufacturers.
