Valentini Flower Collage Sheets
Since this post is going out on Valentine’s Day, I felt like I needed some collage sheets that fit the theme of the day. I’ve already posted quite a bit of Valentine’s Day material, including a number of vintage Valentine’s cards. Then I remembered these beautiful plant engravings that are part of a book by Michael Bernhard Valentini. What better free collage sheets to post on Valentine’s day than ones featuring flower engravings collected by someone named Valentini?

2.5” x 3.5” ATCs
The shortened title of the book from which these gorgeous engravings came is in Latin, Viridarium Reformatum, Seu Regnum Vegetabile. This translates to, The Reformed Greenery, or the Vegetable Kingdom. It dates back to 1719. The longer version of the title includes text that translates to, “This is: Newly Established and Complete Herbal Book: In Which, in a Way Not Happened Before, Which Vegetables, as Herbs, Shrubs, Trees, Flowers, and Other Earth-Growing Kinds, Powers, and Benefits Are Such Described, That you Have this Work Instead of a Botanical Library.” While Valentini was the author of the book, the illustrations in this “botanical library” were done by several different artists.
Harry Potter fans will quickly spot the mandrake illustration, which is a bit more obvious in the ATC sheet. I’ll do more collage sheets featuring engravings from this book in the future because I feel like a lot of the other illustrations in the book look like something straight out of an herbology class.
