Postcards were a popular medium for exchanging holiday greetings during the early 20th century, and the imagery used on these cards often reflected the current trends in popular culture. The use of whimsical or fantastical imagery on postcards was also common during this time, as it added a playful and lighthearted element to the card.
Plane and flying machine imagery became popular in the 1910s due to the rapid advancements in aviation technology and the rise of aviation as a new mode of transportation. The Wright Brothers' successful flight in 1903 paved the way for further experimentation and innovation in aviation, and by the 1910s, airplanes were being used for military purposes, commercial air travel, and even for entertainment purposes such as aerial stunts and races.
During this time, aviation was seen as a symbol of progress and innovation, and the public was fascinated by the idea of flight and the potential that it held for the future. This fascination was reflected in popular culture, including in advertising, films, and literature, where flying machines were often depicted as a symbol of modernity and adventure.
